EFMD Strategic Development Programme

Yesterday I really enjoyed speaking at the EFMD Strategic Development Programme for Deans in Brussels. We had a good discussion on business school advisory boards: exploring different models throughout a school, what makes boards effective, and ultimately tackling the big question:

👉 Can you clearly define the role you would like your board to play?

After setting a clear role and remit ask yourself:

👉 Can you identify the impact your board is having AND evidence it?

From inherited boards to building new, and reshaping boards that have lost their way, the conversation covered it all. We also ventured into the ever-interesting (and sometimes delicate) territory: Should business school advisory boards support fundraising? This is definitely something that is different culturally as I look across across the world and something we at H&A are being asked about more and more. If you would like an interactive, facilitated session with your board to explore this or other topics Dr Sybille Schiffmann from our team will be delighted to help.

It was good to share the stage again with the fascinating Michael Page, who brought his wealth of experience with his own boards and being a member on and chairing other peoples. Thanks to Mike and Virginie Heredia Rosa for inviting me and great to see Matthew Wood and Baback Yazdani.

Always a pleasure to exchange insights with such a thoughtful group. And anyone that knows me will know I am now considering branded planters for my office!
